Buy the correct approved lock for the value of your bike.
The Price: you get what you pay for. A cheap lock will offer little resistance to a thief.
‘D’ locks: are some of the most durable of bicycle locks.
Chain locks: robust and heavy but you will need a strong padlock.
Cable and combination, some of these can be cut easily.
Don’t spend ‘£1000.00 on a bicycle and £15.00 on a lock.
If you insure your bicycle with a bespoke bicycle insurance company, they will insist on your using a lock of established grade.
Bronze – If your bicycle has an insured value of less than £250.
Silver – Bicycles with an insured value of less than £999
Gold – Bicycles with an insured value of £1,000 or more
A Gold Sold Secure lock provides a higher level of resistance against a dedicated thief. Gold locks are required for a bicycle with an insured value of £1,000 or more.
Sold Secure approved locks are graded according to their strength, reliability and sophistication. Always look for the Sold Secure logo when purchasing an approved bicycle lock.
